Holgate (or Onemile) Creek

Holgate (or Onemile) Creek drains most of the Small Tracts neighborhood of Haines.  Holgate Creek crosses under Small Tracts Road and Mud Bay Road before it joins the Chilkat River near McClellan Flats near River Road at about 1 mile Mud Bay Road.  TWC has completed fish distribution, habitat assessments, water quality and quantity studies on the creek.  The estuary of Holgate creek hosts migratory birds each spring.  Sea-run cutthroat trout are commonly observed spawning in the lower reaches of the creek each spring and eulachon have been known to spawn in the estuary as well.  The upper reaches of the creek are old growth forest in Chilkat State Park near Lily Lake.
