TBO Bird Migration Studies
The Ts'ats'ee Bird Observatory is conducting two bird migration studies. One is to look at diversity - which species live and migrate through the Haines area and if those species have changed. The other is to delineate a flyway - determine the route migratory birds use to get to more northern breeding grounds. Every week between mid-April and the end of June, point count surveys will be taken from 17 specific locations. The results of those point counts will be posted here. Some species (e.g common mergansers and mallards) have both resident populations and migrant populations. Other species (e.g. robins) will overwinter some years and not others.
