Local Information:

One of the first plants to come up in the spring, often through the snow.  Skunk Cabbage can generate heat up to 70 degrees Fahrenheit to melt the snow and show its flower.  The flower is large and showy yellow and has the odor of skunk.  Blooming early with a showy fragrant flower attracts flies to it to pollinate it before there are many other flowers to compete for pollinators..
