Sawmill Creek

Sawmill Creek has provided a home and spawning grounds for our finned friends throughout Haines history. Some of our elders remember fishing and playing in Sawmill Creek as children. As Haines grew, the creek was rerouted, channeled and mostly forgotten, but it still provides a good place for salmon and sportfish to live and grow. We’d like to help restore the creek to its former glory: a nice place to walk, play, and fish.

We are currently monitoring the health of Sawmill Creek through benthic macroinvertebrate sampling and fish trapping.
